G-Star 2018
G-Star 2018 was a video game trade exhibition held from November 13 until 18, 2018, in Busan, South Korea. It is part of the annual G-Star event by the Korea Association of Game Industry and Busan IT Promotion Agency. Ten Philippine companies participated in the event, and two game entries from Philippine game developers won awards.
The Police Killing of Joshua Laxamana
On August 17, 2018, 17-year-old Joshua Laxamana was gunned down by the Philippine National Police in Rosales, Pangasinan, Philippines . Joshua allegedly drove past a checkpoint and shot at the pursuing police, which forced the latter to retaliate and kill him. Joshua's companion, 15-year-old Julius Sebastian , remains missing . This happened during the height of former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte's brutal war on drugs.

The event was held in Daegu, South Korea on December 29, 2009. Seven countries with three players each participated in the event, for a total of twenty-one players.

ePLDT's acquisition of Level Up! Inc.
In February 2006, Philippine technology company ePLDT, Inc. announced that it had acquired a majority stake in the live service gaming publisher Level Up! Inc. from its parent company, Level Up! International Holdings Pte. Ltd. This acquisition led to the merger of the operations of the gaming portals netGames (owned by ePLDT) and Level Up! , with the former's branding being dropped in favor of retaining the latter.

In September 2014, two Hearthstone Philippine representatives for the BlizzCon North American LAN Qualifiers, Chalk "Chalk" Zaldivar and Euniel "Staz" Javiñas, were denied US Visas that prevented them from participating in the US$250,000 BlizzCon Hearthstone World Championship.

On June 2020, Filipino-Italian actor Gianmatteo Fernan Guidicelli , better known as Matteo Guidicelli , published a controversial unboxing video on his YouTube channel where he unboxed a sponsored PlayStation 4 Pro bundle. It gained notoriety for his lack of enthusiasm in the video and his sloppy unboxing of the package.
