SM Supermalls Pokémon GO Lure Party

On Friday, August 12, 2016, Philippine mall chain SM Supermalls held a nationwide Pokémon GO Lure Party to celebrate the launch of the game in the country. Over 50 SM Supermalls in the Philippines participated in the event, making it the largest Pokémon GO lure party in the world.

About

Pokémon GO was launched in the Philippines on August 7, 2016, becoming a nationwide hit. On August 12, from 5 PM to 9 PM, SM Supermalls launched a nationwide lure party. During that time, more than 50 SM Supermalls were turned into PokéStops, with some doubling as Gyms. Some participating malls also provided Pokémon-related attractions and activities for mallgoers.

SM Mall of Asia's Globamaze, the giant electronic globe billboard, was decorated to portray a giant Pokéball.

Jonjon San Agustin, SM Supermalls’ senior vice president for marketing, stated, "As early as July, our Pokémon GO digital campaign had witnessed how fascinated and ecstatic our shoppers were for the app’s official Philippine release. And from the fans’ overflowing reactions, we knew we had to give them something big and unforgettable once the game is launched."[1]

Due to its popularity, the event was extended to the weekend of August 13 and 14, 2006, for select SM Supermalls.[1]
