About

Background

Belial: Art of the Devil, originally entitled Belial: Ars Demonia. was a planned remake of the point-and-click adventure Flash game Belial by Filipino developer Bari Silvestre of Keybol Games. The original Belial game was planned to be a platformer, however, it was changed to an adventure game due to the lack of expertise.[1]

Belial: Ars Demonia

Ars Demonia was first conceptualized in July 2014. Silvestre said that Ars Demonia, was "the game [he] always wanted to make" and defines it as his tribute to the golden age of gaming.[2]

The game was previewed at the Maker Manila Festival 2014, Philippine Game Festival 2014, and the Electronic Sports Gaming Summit 2014 events in the Philippines. Ferryman Games was announced to the public as the game's developer. A short flash demo under the title Belial: Ars Arcana was later released.

On September 2014, Ars Demonia was renamed to Art of the Devil.

Square Enix Collective

In the last week of September 2014, Art of the Devil was featured in Square Enix Collective.[3] After the 28-day voting process, the game managed to get 87% "yes" votes from almost 300 votes. An April 2015 campaign was agreed upon.[4]

Development problems

On March 19, 2015, after remaining silent for four months, the Art of the Devil Facebook page updated the public. The developer revealed problems related to real-life, which slowed the project down.[5]

The last activity of its Facebook page was on March 2, 2017, when it urged its fans to vote for the game in Steam Greenlight.[6] The game was not greenlit, as the Greenlight program was retired on June 2017.
